Home Cooked · verified home cooks

Real kitchens,
ready tonight.

The pot your neighbour puts on at two is at your door by seven. Every cook is verified and food-safety trained, and a rider collects at their gate. Hot, sealed and honest.

What it is

Home Cooked is food from real Nairobi home kitchens. Each cook puts on a pot tonight and you order a plate; a PikaBox rider collects it, sealed, at her gate.

Why it’s good

  1. Every cook is ID-checked and passes a food-safety course before her kitchen opens
  2. Allergens declared on every dish, so you know what is in your plate
  3. Cooked fresh today, with a four-hour freshness clock from pot to plate

Taste of home

Homesick? Food from your county.

Nairobi is everyone’s second home. Find a cook from where you grew up, making it the way your mother did, or ask a few cooks for the dish you miss.

How it works

From her stove to your door, sealed.

  1. The cook

    The pot goes on

In the afternoon a cook posts tonight’s pot with a photo, the plates and a ready time. Before it opens she ticks her hygiene check and declares every allergen.

Before the pot opens: the cook’s hygiene check, and the allergens that go on every label
  2. You

    Reserve your plates

Order on the web or in the app, say how hungry you are and make it yours. Pay with M-Pesa; you’re charged only when it’s collected.

A plate of beef stew and chapati: the cook’s note, its allergens, and how hungry you are
  3. Your rider

    Collected at her gate, sealed

A PikaBox rider collects at the cook’s gate. She checks his face and his code, and every plate is sealed with a tear strip. No addresses are shared.

The handover at the gate: the rider’s face and code are checked before the sealed plates leave
  4. Your door

    Hot at your door

Follow it live, check the seal, eat. Rate the cook, and the plate goes into your Sahani.

Safety

Safe by design, not by luck.

We built Home Cooked so you never have to wonder about a kitchen, and a cook never has to share where she lives.

  1. Verified cooks

An ID check, a food-safety course, a video kitchen check and a tasted first pot, all before her kitchen opens.

  2. Collected at the gate

Buyers never see the cook’s address, and cooks never see yours. Riders only see the next stop.

  3. Sealed with a tear strip

Every container is sealed at the gate with a numbered tear strip. If it’s broken, don’t eat it: tell us and we refund you.

  4. A four-hour freshness clock

Every plate is cooked today and goes from pot to plate within four hours.
